Last year my family doctor freaked when she saw my TSH had gone for a deep dive and was set to send me to an endocrinologist. She was convinced: hyperthyroidism, meds incoming.
I said, “I don’t think so. I have no symptoms and it’s just one test. I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with my thyroid” I didn’t mention that I was on iodine protocol. I didn’t feel like having that argument.
Because I refused she re-tested with free T3 & T4—both perfect. A year later, I had cut back on iodine and TSH bounced back to “normal” too. Why was it low last year? My body had plenty of T3/T4 from the iodine, so the pituitary went, “Cool, we’re good—no need to yell for more!” That’s normal physiology, not a problem.
But she never asked about iodine or lifestyle. Just saw a number and wanted to “fix” it.
Lesson? Low TSH alone doesn’t mean disaster. Always check free T3, free T4, reverse T3 + how you actually feel. If iodine, clean diet, and lifestyle are on point, low TSH can be a win, not a problem.
