Why I Stopped Making Smoothies Every Day

We all find it hard to eat as well as we’d like on busy days—short on time and often tempted by quick choices we know we’ll regret later. What if there was a simple, customizable, delicious way to get concentrated nutrition you could whip up almost anywhere — whether you’re at work, at home, or traveling?

There is. I’ve been doing it almost daily for many months now, including in my hotel room during my 25-night stay at the Holistic Care Clinic in Mexico. It really helped me reduce restaurant meals, saved money, and gave me more control over my nutrition — just like I have at home.

Can you guess what it is? The hint was “whip up” (or maybe “froth up” would have been better!). After years of smoothies almost daily, I finally made the switch.

Enter My New Favorite: The Elixir.

These have become my go-to drinks that my body actually craves. They deliver far more targeted nutrients in one simple drink than most people get in a regular meal — without the time or effort. Best of all, they’re incredibly easy to make with just a frother (or even a shaker).

Why I prefer elixirs:

  • No blender hassle — Just a quick mix with a milk frother that cleans in seconds and tucks away neatly in a drawer. It’s become my new kitchen bestie—I liked it so much I recently bought a second one as backup. I’ve reviewed dozens and tried a few, so if you have questions about which to choose, just ask!
  • Naturally low-carb & delicious — Sweetened with inulin, glycine, and gentle root powders instead of fruit. This lets me save most of my carbs for one enjoyable meal a day, avoiding blood sugar and insulin roller coaster rides.
  • Gentler on nutrients — High-speed blenders introduce more air and friction, which can damage or destroy delicate antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin C, certain enzymes, and antioxidants. A quick froth with a milk frother is much gentler on those fragile compounds.
  • Travel-friendly — I wouldn’t leave home without my frother. It works beautifully in hotel rooms, trailers, camping setups, or anywhere you have a bit of water for a quick rinse. Even without kefir, my base powder blend (plus any of my other custom mixes like the Matcha one) travels light and mixes well with whatever liquid I choose.

The biggest time-saver? I batch-prep a 30-day supply of my base powder mix. Scoop, add any extras (like raw egg and vanilla) that I want, froth with homemade kefir, add cacao nibs for crunch, and done. Fast, consistent, and powerfully nutritious.

My base elixir mix contains a solid mix of the key minerals and foundational supplement powders I want in my body every day. I also make other custom blends (like my Matcha Detox Cosmic Elixir) that can be added to the base mixture—that and others are posted on my website.

These elixirs help me efficiently fill the nutrient gaps that modern food alone can’t cover. They make consistent, high-quality daily nutrition simple and effective.

The beauty of these elixirs is how flexible they are. You don’t need homemade kefir (though I love mine). Here are some good options:

  • Full-fat coconut milk (thinned with a little water or unsweetened nut milk if needed)
  • Plain store-bought kefir or thinned plain yogurt
  • A scoop of coconut powder or your favorite clean protein powder mixed with water
  • Homemade fermented nut milk (I shared a simple probiotic powder version recently)

This is the one I use and recommend because:

  • Rechargeable — No batteries to replace, and it feels noticeably more powerful than the battery-operated models.
  • Separate power buttons — It has dedicated buttons for each speed level. With single-button models you have to cycle through all the speeds to turn it off, which can create unnecessary messes in a hurry!
  • Dual spring whisk — Mixes much faster and more thoroughly than single-spring versions, especially when adding raw eggs.
  • Compact & travel-friendly — The cap snaps on securely so it tucks neatly into a drawer or suitcase.
