Cyclospora

With all the talk about Cyclospora (that parasite causing gut issues from contaminated produce), I wanted to share some empowering info. I’m not skipping my raw fruits and veggies, and here’s why I feel solid about it.

Cyclospora is a single-celled parasite that can sneak into produce via fecal contamination, especially in big supply chains. But a standout study on silver nanoparticles showed impressive results against it. In mice infected with Cyclospora, the silver particles significantly dropped the parasite load, damaged the oocysts (making them non-viable), and boosted immune response — all with no signs of toxicity in the study.

I make and use colloidal silver for all kinds of things, including potential foodborne stuff, and pair it with activated charcoal and/or clay for binding any toxins. This parasite is a perfect example of why having your own colloidal silver brewer to make your own CS is invaluable. I took mine to Mexico and it saved me from the pain of a bad sunburn. We have all the info and equipment needed to make colloidal silver, ask in comments!

Bonus tip for sourcing: I drink colloidal silver daily, especially when eating any questionable raw produce, but I don’t get much questionable produce in the summer because I get most of my produce from local organic/regenerative farms and markets. These practices build healthier soil and ecosystems, which means way less chance of the kind of contamination you see in large-scale industrial supply chains. Supporting local isn’t just fresher and tastier — it’s smarter for avoiding these issues. Check out your area if you haven’t— let’s fill those markets instead of defaulting to one-stop grocery runs!

I think of the gut as ground zero. Most of the immune system lives there, so a resilient terrain — good microbiome, strong mucosal lining, proper pH, and healthy motility — is your best long-game defense against these opportunists. Parasites thrive when the gut is stressed or deficient.

Quick Preventive & Support Protocol Idea

  1. Daily Gut Armor: Oil of oregano (a few drops or a capsule) with meals for 10–14 days, then take 3–5 days off before repeating if needed. Pair it with a quality probiotic (away from the oregano). Separately, take a teaspoon of bentonite clay in water on an empty stomach (at least 2 hours away from food, herbs, or supplements) to help bind and remove debris.
  2. Produce Prep: Soak in diluted food-grade H2O2 (about 1/4 cup 3% per gallon for 10-20 mins) — add colloidal silver for extra support. Or use vinegar water. Scrub what you can.
  3. If Symptoms Hit: Ramp up antimicrobials (oregano + berberine + Pau d’Arco), hydration with electrolytes, bone broth, rest. Short castor oil packs if motility slows. Charcoal works great here too.
  4. The Long Game: Heal deficiencies (magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, etc.), diversify the microbiome, keep drainage open.

This isn’t about living in fear of a random parasite — it’s about giving your gut and immune system the tools they need to do what they’re designed for. I’m sticking with my local organic hauls and my usual natural supports because they feel aligned and effective.

Healthy stomach acid levels (low pH in the stomach, around 1.5–3.5 when digesting) is also important. This acts as one of the body’s first defenses, helping break down food and making it harder for swallowed pathogens to survive. To support it: bitter herbs like gentian or dandelion, a splash of apple cider vinegar before meals, chewing thoroughly, and addressing deficiencies (zinc, B vitamins, etc.). Low stomach acid is surprisingly common and leaves the door wider open for invaders.
